Rethink Fundraiser of the Month!

Just a quick post to announce that Rethink Mental Illness have made me their Fundraiser of the Month! I’m very grateful to them for doing that and increasing the awareness of my challenge. Hopefully this will help to spur some more cyclists to support me and others to donate to the cause.

Saturday 7th of March for Southwell, Derby, Leicester!

Hey folks, I will be departing from Rutland County Council Car Park in Oakham at 7.30am on Sat 7th of March on a 120 mile route (see below) visiting…

  • Southwell Minster
  • Derby Cathedral
  • Leicester Cathedral

People are welcome to join me, even if it’s just for part of the ride. This is one of the most local cathedral routes I will do, so ideal if you live near Oakham and want to take part.

If you do want to come, all I ask if that you please join the Just Giving Team and try to get some of your friends to sponsor your effort. It all goes in the same pot and even if it’s just a few quid it all helps!

Total distance is 120 miles which should take about 8 hours at 15 mph average. I intend to stop for about 45-60 mins at each cathedral… late brekkie in Southwell, lunch in Derby, afternoon tea and cake in Leicester.  I hope to be back in Oakham by about 6.00pm in time to head home for shower, some dinner and then back out for obligatory ales in Oakham.

Bring it on!

First cathedral done – Only 41 to go!

The challenge is underway!

On Sat 17th of January I cycled to Lincoln Cathedral for lunch and back with two cycling buddies Chris and Gavin from my local cycling club, Velo Club Rutland.

We headed out at 10.00am to avoid the ice but still had to dismount a couple of times to avoid falling off. A closed road also forced us to cycle on a mud track alongside the River Witham between Long Bennington and Dry Doddington.

A nice tailwind blew us out to Lincoln in around 3 hours and we finished the outward journey in style by riding up the famous cobbled Michaelgate and up to Castle Hill Square for some well deserved lunch!

The return journey was a slog. Terrible headwind for the first 20 miles out on some pretty boring, unrelenting, straight roads with no shelter from the wind. Still, got back safely in time for a couple of beers at The Grainstore Brewery Tap. Mmmm….

Total distance 102 miles in about 6.5 hours. Here’s the route…

Welcome to my Blog which I’ve set up so people can keep up to date on the progress of my challenge to cycle to all 42 cathedrals in England in 2015 in aid of the charity ‘Rethink Mental Illness’.

Thanks for reading, sharing, supporting and generally showing an interest. With your help I will get there!
